3.3 - Sandhi
There is just one possible morphophonological complication in the noun delension, shown by example in the previous paragraph. Some of the nouns whose stem ends with a sonorant (m, n, l, r) show reminiscence sandhi. There are three different categories of such nouns, labelled labial stems, dental stems, velar stems, which yield the following alternations:
| Labial | Dental | Velar | |
|---|---|---|---|
| m | mm | tt | nc |
| n | mb | nt | nc |
| l | lb | ld | lc |
| r | rb | rd | rg |
There is no rule for recognizing such nouns. Which nouns feature reminiscence sandhi, and which class they belong to, is to be learned on a case-by-case basis, or looked up in a vocabulary.
