The Arden Reference Grammar| Arden Reference Grammar > Syntax > Adjectives | Previous | Next |
Arden lacks a syntactic class of true adjectives. Nouns of states and qualities are used instead, in a construction where the attribute is taken as the head of the noun phrase, to which the modified noun is attached as a genitive complement. This is similar to the kind of metaphorical usage found in some language. For example, in English one may say "A love of a girl" to mean "A lovable girl."
