The most formal greeting in Arden, which is equally suitable for the meeting and the parting, is springel vi tú sprinhel vi, which litterally means "may it rise and bear fruit".
For a formal farewell, the following is observed. Who is parting says vilhe cer remen lei, that is "keep my joy with you". To this, who is remaining replies vilhe cer tremen lei, which means "take my joy away". If both parties are leaving the place of meeting at the same time, they both say vilhe cer tremen lei.
Among friends and in other informal contexts, the two farewell greetings above are shortened to rémelei and trémelei respectively.
